What makes an idea endure? As a designer, I’ve asked myself this question countless times. Is it the visuals that captivate, the functionality that sustains, or the story that gives it life? 

Design began for me as a form of personal expression—a way to communicate my ideas, emotions, and thoughts visually. It was through this creative outlet that I first discovered it’s power to tell stories and convey meaning without words. The thrill of self-expression and creating something uniquely mine fuelled my passion for design.

However, as I grew older and my understanding of design deepened, I began to realise that it’s true power lay not in expressing my thoughts alone but in connecting with others. I learnt that the most meaningful ideas were those that aligned with purpose, resonated with human emotion, and evolved with changing contexts.

Through my studies in fashion and lifestyle accessory design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, I honed my skills and expanded my understanding of design. I was exposed to a wide array of design disciplines, each with its own unique challenges and impact. As I began to collaborate with teams on various projects, I understood the importance of comprehensive understanding of how design interacts with business models, consumer behaviour, and market trends.

I saw design limitations when it operated in isolation. A great design cannot stand alone; it must be part of a broader ecosystem of strategy, innovation, and execution. It can only reach its full potential when paired with sound strategy, which I saw happening during my six-month internship at K. H. Exports Pvt. Ltd., Asia’s largest luxury goods manufacturer. I had the opportunity to engage with various levels of the organisation and explore multiple business functions. I gained insights into diverse supply chains, presented to international buyers such as Ralph Lauren, and collaborated across departments to develop my own collections.
